Double
Bass Days |
|
In
July 2001 we held our first double bass day in West
Glamorgan. Over 20 double bassists attended, ages ranging
between 10 and 18. There were group workshops and a
masterclass conducted by Julian Walters of the CBSO
and a former member of West Glamorgan Youth Orchestra.
Due to the nature of the instrument this was actually
the first time some of the younger players had even
met other bassists and has really encouraged them to
join orchestras and ensembles.

We
held our second double bass day in July 2003 and this time
we had an amazing 42 double bassists attend. Again we were
very lucky to have Julian Walters with us for the day. To
start the day we all played a piece together - what a sight
to see! This was followed by a masterclass which several
of the bassists took part in. In the afternoon there were
group sessions and we ended the day with an informal concert
for parents. |

We
had 10 "baby basses" with their 1/4 size basses
participate.
